and was eventually sold to Alexander Thomas Clarkson around 1873

We have not been able to locate this maker

and that may explain the total lack of markings

This is an aluminum lighter with an 1945 dated American quarter coin embedded into one side. The reverse side is engraved: R. BAKER GUADALCANAL N. GUINEA N. BRITAIN PELELIU OKINAWA CHINA One side is nicely engraved with the 1st Marine Division insignia of a 1 inside a diamond and the other side reads 7th Reg. The 1st Marine Division was activated aboard the USS Texas on 1 February 1941. and later were landed on the island
