This Spanish naval boarding cutlass was recovered from the wreck of the battle cruiser Cristbal Coln, sunk 3 July 1898 during the Spanish American War. She was 8000 tons and 112 meters in length, built in Italy as a Giuseppe Garibaldi class armored cruiser, an ultra modern design. She was then sold to the Spanish Navy, and was acquired 16 May 1897. She was designed to be an
